Changed Through His Grace

About the book: "Have you been changed by grace?" In this insightful book, Brad Wilcox explores this life-altering question in depth. Christians throughout the centuries have used grace to describe God's favor, goodwill, and love. However, grace is more than a description of God's attributes. It is the help, power, and strength He offers as we choose to engage with Him in striving to attain those attributes. It is the help, power, and strength He offers as we choose to engage with Him in striving to attain those attributes. Grace is different from the Atonement. It is not Christ's suffering, death, and Resurrection. Rather, grace is the power that flows from those sacred moments. Grace is not a priesthood ordinance, but essential ordinances invite greater and greater endowments of grace into our lives. Grace is a divine gift, but like any gift, it must be received.

In this book, Brother Wilcox uses real-life stories and personal experiences to demonstrate how we c…

Blog Tour - Stu Stories: The Adventures of Dirt Clod and His Sidekick Bird Bones

About the book: Stu Sanderson is no ordinary eighth-grader. Not only is he seven feet tall, but he also vanishes into thin air, duels knights and ninjas, lifts the downtrodden, and woos the best-calved girl in school. Become a middle-grade legend with Stu and his sidekick, Bird Bones, on the journey of a lifetime in “Stu Stories.”

My review: This is a fun book written for middle grade boys. It doesn't seem as though there are all that many written for this group, so I always enjoy seeing new ones.

I liked the way this one is written. Stu is who the book is about, but the way it's written is through the eyes of his friend, Bird Bones. That makes the things that happen to Stu even more funny because you don't know how the things happened.

This book reminded me a little bit of "Sideways Stories from Wayside School," because it's a collection of several stories that kind of fit together to make a whole story, but they also stand on their own. I thought the stories…

Friday Favorite - Mrs. Call's Candy

This week's Friday Favorite is a small candy shop located in beautiful Heber City, Utah. But through the wonders of the internet, almost everyone can have some of their fabulous candy! Make sure to check out their website here. You can also check out their FaceBook page, and they have an Instagram account too! I love that the owners post video of just how everything is made on these accounts, it's just fun to see!

They have the cutest little shop in their store in Heber. And they give free samples of almost everything! I've heard that they are going to be expanding their factory, maybe their shop will be expanding too, I really don't know. But you can check out their store at 356 W 1000 S, Heber City, UT.

Now for the good stuff! I'm going to mention a few of my favorites that they make. Quite honestly, I've tried lots of their candies and everything has been amazing, so you really can't go wrong. But I do have a few favorites.

My very favorite thing I've …

Book Blast - The Rise of Miss Notley

The Rise of Miss Notley by Rachael Anderson When Miss Coralynn Notley’s father barters her off to the first titled gentleman to come along, she realizes she must flee her home or be forced to wed a despicable man. Driven by desperation, she applies for the position of housekeeper at Tanglewood Manor, the home of the handsome Mr. Jonathan Ludlow. The moment Jonathan sees Miss Notley, he is intrigued. She is far too young and inexperienced, yet there is something about her that that inspires a certain hope within him. Does he dare offer her the position of housekeeper or will doing so result in catastrophe?
Excerpt Cora nodded and followed Mr. Ludlow into the parlor. He closed the doors and stood in front of them with his arms folded, looking far more intimidating than he had during their last meeting. He said nothing, merely lifted an inquiring eyebrow and waited. Caught unprepared, Cora stared at him, trying to organize her thoughts into words. After a few moments of awkward sil…

Bad Day, Great Life

About the CD: From illness, fear, and depression to betrayal, sin, and simple mistakes, we all have bad days. However, a bad day doesn't need to turn into a bad life! In this upbeat and hope-filled fireside message, popular speaker Eric D. Richards uses humor, stories, doctrine, and a lesson from Polynesia to remind listeners that nothing is so bitter that it can't be sweetened through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. "Great opportunities are often disguised as impossible situations," teaches Brother Richards. "The Lord never promised to fix all our problems, but He did promise we'd never go through them alone." Based on his own life experiences being raised by a single mom, he teaches about the four sources of our trials and gives a solid and practical principle about what to do when bad days strike to keep us clinging to our faith despite the winds of opposition. This is an encouragingly hopeful message given in a very positive spirit about how the Savi…

Favorite Friday - Nauvoo Cafe Re-Opening

I'm starting a new feature here on my blog to kind of spotlight my very favorite things. I want to try it out on Fridays, but I might have to move it around a little bit. A lot of my favorites I'm planning to talk about will be local to me in the northern Utah area, but some of them may be accessible to every one through the wonders of the Internet.

The first place I'm going to talk about is the Nauvoo Cafe. It's a cute little sandwich restaurant located in the main floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in downtown Salt Lake City. It's located in what used to be the Nauvoo Room (which coincidentally was where my husband and I had our wedding breakfast). This is one of our family's very favorite places to go. I'd say it's the one our kids especially request the most. In fact, last month our middle daughter requested it for her birthday. When we arrived, we found out that they had closed for remodeling less than 24 hours earlier. Let me just tell you…

Higher

In all of his travels across South America, through Europe and Asia, and across America, Nathan often includes spiritually rooted and uplifting songs in his repertoire. This album is a collection of his favorite songs that connect with those spiritual moments from his performances across the world. These songs take the listener on a beautiful journey with classic hymns such as "Be Thou My Vision," soaring Italian epics like "Nella Fantasia," and modern classics such as "Forever," by Kari Jobe. Performing with intimate acoustic backing and often featuring piano and cello, Nathan's desire with this album is to help people reach higher, to feel deeper spiritual connection, and to find peace through songs that life the soul.

Track List
1. Forever
2. Be Thou My Vision
3. The Lord’s Prayer
4. His Love

The Reformer

About the book: From the Power of the Matchmaker series:

Mary Buchanan has bigger worries than the radical journalist moving in next door who’s spoiling her father’s digestion: unrequited love for a footman, a fractious aunt, patiently awaiting her destiny…

Already she’s nearly eighteen. No sign of destiny yet, but Mary’s certain he’ll be handsome.

Then she meets the reformer, this Mr. Samuel Brown. Destiny is closer at hand than Mary has supposed—if she can just get Mr. Brown to realize it.

My review: This book is the concluding book to the Power of the Matchmaker series from 2016. I really liked most of these books, but this one was really not my favorite.

I did like Mary. She is an 18 year-old young woman. She lives with her dad and aunt and her life is not really ideal. She's meant to stay in the house and not really do anything or go anywhere. I liked the way that she wanted to break out of her father's rules and live her own life. And she does. She becomes a satire comic for…

Blog Tour - Dating Never Works...Until It Does

About the book: Tired of mixed messages, confusing signals, and of playing the dating game? Dating expert Zack Oates has experienced it all in this comical guide that will keep you happy and laughing. Perfect for audiences in dating situations of all kinds, these encouraging steps will help you find your celestial mate.

My review: I don't really need a find your love type book, but I have to say reading the premise behind this one made me smile and I just wanted to read it. Plus...don't you just love the cover!

I do have to admit that even though I'm already married, I did learn things from this book. I learned about kindness, love and the author had some really great dating ideas at the end that anyone can use. And I really loved the ideas for how those of us who are married can treat the single people around us, so that they feel accepted and loved in every situation.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The author's writing style is super easy to read and it's real…
