Song Breaker

About the book: Based on a Nordic myth in the Finnish KALEVALA, which inspired Tolkien’s LORD OF THE RINGS, including his character of Gandalf, comes SONG BREAKER, from a USA TODAY bestselling author.

To Aino, the idea of spending her life warming the bed of a wrinkled old wizard—especially when it means life without her secretly betrothed love—is horrifying. When her brother Jouko foolishly duels Vane, the greatest wizard ever known, he finds himself on the verge of death and saves himself only by promising his sister as the old man’s trophy.

Furious, Aino refuses to be forced into marrying anyone. But with only two days until the wizard comes for her, she must find a way to break the curse, or she’ll end up his prisoner. She uncovers a possible solution, but while it may technically free her from the old man, her escape may mean exchanging one kind of prison for another.

My review: I haven't read many Nordic myths, but I know great book when I read one and this one is really great…

My Dearest Love

About the book: From the USA Today Bestselling author of the Longing for Home series, MY DEAREST LOVE is a new romance novella set in the beloved world of Hope Springs.

Ian O’Connor spends his days in the purgatory of a New York textile factory, enduring the dangerous conditions to keep his family afloat. Somewhere in the vast, dark corridors of his daily prison is an angel. He has seen her only once but is determined to find her again.

Biddy Dillon has lost her home and her family. Loneliness chips away at her fragile hopes until she meets Ian, whose soft-spoken kindness touches her heart. For the first time in years, she begins to believe in the possibility of good things to come.

When tragedy conspires to pull the couple apart, they must decide if theirs is a future meant to be built together, or if fate has other plans.

My review: I kind of LOVE the Hope Springs world! I loved this one because you get to see Ian and Biddy's love story and it was just so great!

But you also get to …

Favorite Friday - Carthage DVD

About the DVD: While seething mobs converged around them, the Prophet Joseph and his brethren quietly submitted themselves to imprisonment in Carthage Jail. Now, as never before, audiences are invited to witness the events of the days preceding the martyrdom. Based on documents handed down through the generations, Carthage offers a glimpse into the turmoil and testimony of the men whose place in history was forever defined by what was to come—a jailer seeking to protect his charges, a governor caught between the persecuted and their persecutors, and a group of Saints whose faith and brotherhood stands as the ultimate witness of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

My review: There were a lot of things about this short movie that I really liked. I liked the way that Joseph Smith was portrayed in it. I thought the actor did a great job and it was fun to see how he would have interacted one on one with the people he was in the jail with, especially his brother Hyrum. Their time …

Safe House

About the book: As a victim’s advocate, Grace James is used to rushing into trouble to save her victims from abuse or assault. And with a handsome officer like Joe Hart at her side, Grace is sure there’s nothing she can’t do. But an ominous storm brewing on the Oregon horizon is about to change everything—and bring with it dangers and revelations Grace and Joe never expected.

My review: Wow, I'm not quite sure what I expected from this book, but I didn't expect to be drawn in as fast as I was. This book is intense from the very first page until the very last page. I loved every minute I spent reading it!

I like the way this book has so many different view points. You get such a great picture of exactly what is happening. You even get viewpoints from the bad guys in this one. That really made the picture of everything going on so clear.

I'm not sure I can tell you just who the main character is, there are several. I'd have to say Amber, Grace and Kelly would kind of be th…

Blog Tour - Supreme Power

About the book: Bestselling author Ted Stewart explains how the Supreme Court and its nine appointed members now stand at a crucial point in their power to hand down momentous and far-ranging decisions. Today's Court affects every major area of American life, from health care to civil rights, from abortion to marriage.

This fascinating book reveals the complex history of the Court as told through seven pivotal decisions. These cases originally seemed narrow in scope, but they vastly expanded the interpretation of law. Such is the power of judicial review to make sweeping, often unforeseen, changes in American society by revising the meaning of our Constitution.

Each chapter presents an easy-to-read brief on the case and explains what the decisions mean and how the Court ruling, often a 5-4 split, had long-term impact. For example, in Lochner v. New York, a widely accepted turn-of-the-twentieth-century New York State law limited excessive overtime for bakery workers. That law was ove…

Onboard for Love

About the book: Alicia Noir's ex-husband, Trav, has always valued his race car more than his family, just like her dad who died in his race car. When their eight-year old son pulls them into the cruise vacation of a lifetime, she has to find a way to resist Trav's charm, his well-formed chest, and especially his unending kindness. Will vacation reignite their love or is their romance destined to crash and burn for the final time?

My review: This book was a perfect escape! I loved the whole premise ex-husband and ex-wife thrown together on a cruise ship for the sake of their young son! It makes for a fun story, especially since neither is actually over the other yet.

I really liked Alicia. I liked the way she was willing to do pretty much anything for her son. Including go on a cruise with someone she didn't really want to. There's a scene near the end that was pretty gut wrenching for me to read. I can't even imagine how a mother or a father would go through that exp…

Blog Tour - A is for Adam

About the book: Bring your favorite scriptural heroes to life with this fun family ABC book! Discover the amazing men and women God inspired to do great things in His name, from A for Adam to Z for Zacharias. Colorful and entertaining, this book is the perfect way to teach alphabet letters and Bible lessons at the same time!

My review: This is a cute book! I loved looking at it with my little guy. Not only were we talking about letters and what letter starts with what, but we were talking about Bible stories at the same time.

The illustrations in this book are so cute! I loved the way that for each of the pages, there was a Bible story that went with the letter, but there were also other pictures as well. For example on the F page, there was a frog and on the P page there were penguins.

This is a really fun book to look at with your little people. Make sure to grab your copy of this cute one! It would also make a really cute and fun Christmas gift for grandkids!

I was sent a copy of this…

My review: I'm sad to see yet an…

Blog Tour -

It's Friday and normally that would mean one of my personal favorites would be spotlighted here. Today I'm talking about something that is and should be near and dear tot the hearts of all of us who live in this country, the United States Constitution.

I am teaming with Stan Ellsworth, best known as the host of American Ride to help spread the message of FreedomFactor.Org. Their mission is to unite Americans by helping people to better understand the U.S. Constitution. They have already distributed 16 million pocket size constitutions but need help to achieve their goal of distributing 100 million constitutions! Their hope is that as people read and study the constitution, they will be reminded that it was designed to protect: peace, prosperity, and freedom!

I have to just admit that the U.S. Constitution is not something I personally have read all of. I've read bits and pieces of it in school just like everyone else. But I definitely see a real need as a nation to understan…

Blog Tour - Topaz Reign

About the book: Fairy tales are simply tales, told and re-told, but changed over time.

It has been four months since Maggie learned the dark truth behind the tale of the Princess and the Pea and freed Princess Lindy from the cursed Emerald. Lindy is now back in the past where she belongs, queen of her tiny Scandinavian country, and Maggie is a fully reformed ex-stalker.

Except … she can’t stop doing internet searches on Lindy and her country.

One morning, Maggie wakes to find history turned on its head. Apparently, you can’t destroy a centuries-old curse without consequence. In order to prevent the changes in history from wiping out the present, Maggie resurrects her stalking gene and learns that fairy tales don’t stay dead for long.

Or at all.

Back in 1623, Lindy is juggling a threat to her family, a handsome new guard she’s not supposed to have feelings for, and a cursed Topaz with ties to the tale of Thumbelina. When past and present collide, Lindy and Maggie are brought together again…
