Favorite Friday - Nauvoo Cafe Re-Opening

I'm starting a new feature here on my blog to kind of spotlight my very favorite things. I want to try it out on Fridays, but I might have to move it around a little bit. A lot of my favorites I'm planning to talk about will be local to me in the northern Utah area, but some of them may be accessible to every one through the wonders of the Internet.

The first place I'm going to talk about is the Nauvoo Cafe. It's a cute little sandwich restaurant located in the main floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in downtown Salt Lake City. It's located in what used to be the Nauvoo Room (which coincidentally was where my husband and I had our wedding breakfast). This is one of our family's very favorite places to go. I'd say it's the one our kids especially request the most. In fact, last month our middle daughter requested it for her birthday. When we arrived, we found out that they had closed for remodeling less than 24 hours earlier. Let me just tell you, she was bummed!

But...last Friday was their grand re-opening and I was lucky enough to get to go. I have to

say that I loved what they did with the space. I loved the way that moving the counter space not only made the line better and easier to get through, but it really opened up the whole space and made one of the windows facing South Temple accessible. I love looking out the windows and watching the busy traffic go by or the people walking on the sidewalk. The way they've redone things really just make sense. And they even added a few more tables so more people can try their yummy food!

One of my very favorite things they did is something they didn't change...their menu offerings. I love all of the sandwiches that I've tried here. My favorite is probably the Turkey Club. Their sandwiches are a bit unique because they're all hot and they are not using deli lunch meat on any of their sandwiches. They carve the turkey, ham, roast beef, etc when you order your sandwich. So yummy! They also still have their pot pies. I always have a really hard time deciding whether I'm going to get a sandwich or a pot pie when I go this time my husband and I split a Turkey Club and tried splitting a pot pie. I was amazed that he was able to figure out how to do it without making a complete mess.

They also have children's menu items, making it great for the whole family! Our kids have tried the grilled cheese and the quesadilla. They do have other offerings for the kids, or you could get them a sandwich to share with someone. Our little guy likes the Turkey Club just as much as the grilled cheese.

And make sure you try the treats! This time we had a carrot cake and a raspberry muffin top (I think these are my favorite!). But we've also tried the cinnamon rolls, the bread pudding and the cheesecake. And they are ALL AMAZING!

I haven't tried their breakfast yet but it's on my list. I might get to in a few weeks. I for sure want to try their Creme Brulee French Toast.

Quite honestly, we've eaten here many times and never had one problem with the food and the staff is just amazing! They are always kind and always helpful. I LOVE this place. Go try it!
