The Washington Hypothesis

About the book: We know that George Washington was a moral man and an inspiring leader, but did he possibly know more than we suppose? Was he a national covenant maker like Moses, Abraham, Lehi, or Captain Moroni? did he understand that he was fighting for the liberty of a promised land protected by God, a place where the Lord's holy temples could be built?

The Washington Hypothesis explores the intriguing evidence that Washington and the other Founding Fathers knew the Lord had a greater purpose for America. It takes us on a fascinating historical journey through the miracles of the Revolutionary War to the foundational documents of this great nation to the symbolism evident in every corner of the nation's capital. Exploring how Washington's beliefs framed his every action, author Timothy Ballard draws compelling conclusions about the divinity of that great leader's calling. As we see the evidence of the Lord's hand in Washington's life, we may discover a much grander design at work in the founding of our nation—and thus a greater desire to strive to preserve those promised blessings.

My review: I was kind of amazed by just how much I enjoyed this book! I read and enjoyed The Lincoln Hypothesis when it came out a few years ago, so I probably shouldn't have been surprised. What I found when I read this book was a well-researched, interesting book containing ideas about George Washington that I had never thought myself before.

I enjoyed reading the author's personal stories, both about his research and about his life. I really enjoyed reading about his childhood church that he attended. Now I want to go and check out that building for myself, I wonder if they do tours the way they do for some of the older buildings around my area.

I really appreciate the amount of research that must have gone into this book. There are tons of historical facts, quotes and visits to historical places that the author would have had to have gone through and made in order to have written such an amazing book.

I love the way that the author used what happened in Washington's time and compared it both to our time and to times in the scriptures. I especially loved the way he compared Washington to Captain Moroni, wow, talk about mind blowing.

This is one non-fiction book that I didn't want to put down, I highly recommend everyone read it.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

About the author: Timothy Ballard graduated cum laude from Brigham Young University in Spanish and political science, then went on to receive and MA (summa cum laude) in international politics from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. Tim has worked for the Central Intelligence Agency and as a Special Agent for the Department of Homeland Security. He is the founder and CEO of Operation Underground Railroad, which rescues children from child-trafficking organizations throughout the world. The best-selling author of The Lincoln Hypothesis, he recently received the distinguished George Washington Honor Medal from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge. Tim is a devoted husband and the father of six children.

Blog Tour - Compassionate Soldier

About the book: Compassionate Soldier illuminates fascinating yet largely unknown stories of men and women whose humanity led them to perform courageous acts of mercy and compassion amid the chaos and carnage of war. Arranged by war from the American Revolution to the Iraq War and global in perspective, it features extraordinary stories of grace under fire from valiant soldiers and noncombatants who rose above the inhumanity of lethal conflict and chose compassion, even knowing their actions could put their lives and liberty at risk.

Included are the stories of Patrick Ferguson, a British officer during the American Revolution who had the chance to kill George Washington but refused to shoot a man in the back; Richard Kirkland, a Confederate soldier during the Civil War who took water to wounded Union soldiers during the battle of Fredericksburg; and Oswald Boelcke, a German WWI flying ace who was one of the most influential tacticians of early air combat and was known for making sure …

Deseret Bookshelf Plus Review

I'm super excited to be able to tell you about Deseret Bookshelf's newest feature, Plus. I actually first heard about plus coming six months ago at Deseret Book's ladies night. I thought it sounded pretty great and now that I've tried it, I think it's even better than it sounded. It's basically a subscription that you add on top of the Deseret Bookshelf App. If you have Deseret Book's Platinum membership, you pay only $6.99 a month or $69 a year. If you don't it's $9.99 a month or $99 a year. Either way that's a really good deal for what you are going to be getting.

Here's the deal. With plus, you get to listen to all of their audiobooks...for FREE! Something I noticed on this is that you get to listen to even the newest books that are just barely in the store for FREE. I love this! Who has the time to run to the store to grab the book the very day it comes out? Not me, I'm too busy chasing kids around to do that!

Not to mention - have you…
