Covenant Christmas Roundup

I don't know about you, but I can pretty much walk into a bookstore any day and find something that I want! Here is a pretty great list of products by Covenant that you can walk into your local Deseret Book and grab in time for all of your Christmas gift giving.

About the book: Like heirloom ornaments on a splendid tree, It’s All About Christmas will put you and your family in a festive frame of mind for a glorious holiday season. Stuffed with stories, songs, poems, Christmas history, joyful traditions, recipes, and activities, this delightful book celebrates all things Christmas—from the sacred story of the Nativity to the lore of Saint Nick. Opening this book is like tearing the paper off a much-anticipated gift, offering new surprises with each turn of the page. Generously illustrated with scores of vibrant vintage images, It’s All About Christmas will remind you of Christmases past, help you appreciate Christmas present, and guide you to creating memories for the Christmases to come.

My review: The first thing I noticed about this book was the old time feel that the whole thing has. The pictures, the type, the way it's set up all feels as though it's an old book even though it's brand new.

I had a great time looking through this book! It's full of Christmas stories, poems, traditions, recipes, and songs or hymns. I loved that with the songs there was a bit of a story about how the song came to be. It was kind of fun that when I opened it, the first thing I came to were the stories about the Savior's birth from all of the Standard Works. Such a great idea to teach your kids about His birth from the Book of Mormon as well as the Bible!

I'm excited to use this book at Christmas and have it become a tradition that our kids look forward to!

About the book: Investigate the deeper meanings of Christmas with this beautifully designed book that takes a closer look at twenty-five words, like hope, faith, and joy, that we hear throughout the holidays. Reflect upon the true meaning of these oft-repeated words.

My review: This book is neat. I love that on each page there is just one word associated with Christmas. There's an inspirational quote about the word and also a scripture to go with each one. This would make a perfect advent book to use each day in December, or you can just pick a word to talk about. I love this book!

About the book: Her music and lyrics are timeless, her legacy limitless. Now audiences everywhere are invited to celebrate the work of musical legend Janice Kapp Perry with A Songbook for LDS Families, a stunning illustrated compilation of many of Janice’s most moving pieces. A Songbook for LDS Families highlights eighteen beloved and well-known songs, as well as twenty-eight newly penned Book of Mormon hymns composed by Janice Kapp Perry with text by Bonnie Hart Murray. The first section of this beautifully designed book showcases musical scores everyone loves, as well as new sister missionary arrangements of “As Sisters in Zion” and “In the Hollow of Thy Hand.” Incredible insights into the stories behind the cherished lyrics accompany each song. In addition to the choral arrangements, section two explains the process and highlights the scriptures that inspired the creation of these new Book of Mormon hymns. Also included in this special-edition volume are two CDs containing accompaniment tracks to all forty-six pieces of music. Underscored by the stunning artwork of Greg Olsen, Simon Dewey, and Tom Lovell, as well as the complete Book of Mormon art collection by Arnold Friberg, this unparalleled celebration of faith-promoting music is sure to be a treasured keepsake.

My review: Who doesn't love the music of Janice Kapp Perry? I'm excited to be able to use this beautiful hymn book in our family for Home Evenings, music for Church and just everyday listening. I love that there are background stories about the music that Sister Perry has written. And my favorite part is the two included CD's. Can't wait to use this one!

About the DVD: As the sun beams brightly on the hills surrounding Palestine, one young shepherd boy thoughtfully considers the significance of the day. The child, cripples in a terrible accident, has always treasured his shepherd father's tale of that starlit night so many years before — a night filled with the wonder of angelic heralds and a tiny Bethlehem stable sheltering the chosen Messiah. Now, years since that sacred event, tales of Jesus of Nazareth's miraculous birth touch the young boy's faith. When he meets the gentle stranger in the hills — a man oddly familiar to him — the faithful young shepherd encounters a miracle of his own.

My review: This is a perfect DVD to watch with your family, especially during this Christmas season. I loved watching this one with our family and I know that you will too!

About the DVD: Rebekah is fascinated by the man her neighbors call Jesus. Her mother is not so sure. One day she brings Jesus home—a simple act that will forever change their lives.

My review: I really enjoyed watching this movie. I loved Rebekah and loved seeing just how excited she was to meet Jesus. I loved how determined she was to go see him again and find out for herself if he was the Messiah, regardless of what her mother wanted her to do. I loved how excited she was that he knew her name, and it made me think how he truly knows not only each of our names, but he knows every detail about us and cares about what happens to each of us. I was truly touched by the story that her grandfather told her about when he was younger and what happened for him when he was able to meet Jesus. I love that this is a versatile movie, it's perfect for Easter as well as Christmas.

Deseret Bookshelf Plus Review

I'm super excited to be able to tell you about Deseret Bookshelf's newest feature, Plus. I actually first heard about plus coming six months ago at Deseret Book's ladies night. I thought it sounded pretty great and now that I've tried it, I think it's even better than it sounded. It's basically a subscription that you add on top of the Deseret Bookshelf App. If you have Deseret Book's Platinum membership, you pay only $6.99 a month or $69 a year. If you don't it's $9.99 a month or $99 a year. Either way that's a really good deal for what you are going to be getting.

Here's the deal. With plus, you get to listen to all of their audiobooks...for FREE! Something I noticed on this is that you get to listen to even the newest books that are just barely in the store for FREE. I love this! Who has the time to run to the store to grab the book the very day it comes out? Not me, I'm too busy chasing kids around to do that!

Not to mention - have you…

SeaQuest Aquarium Giveaway

For this week's Friday Favorite (I know...it's only Wednesday!) I want to tell you about something new that I got to try out just last week. It's the SeaQuest Aquarium located in the Layton Hills Mall in Layton.

This is a pretty new thing, it actually just opened in November. It's new, it's beautiful and there really is nothing like it located in Davis County. And actually, the way that it's been set up there isn't a whole lot like it out there. You see, it's not just an aquarium, it's really an interactive experience. There are only a few exhibits in the whole aquarium that have animals in them that you can't/shouldn't interact with. Those exhibits have high walls on them so you really can't interact with them anyway. Everything else has low walls. You can touch, feed, examine pretty much anything you see here. That makes it so much more than an aquarium.

I love the way it's set up in areas. Each of the rooms has a different and fun …
