About the book: Alexa Hollen is a fighter. Forced to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king's army, Alex uses her quick wit and fierce sword-fighting skills to earn a spot on the elite prince's guard. But when a powerful sorcerer sneaks into the palace in the dead of night, even Alex, who is virtually unbeatable, can't prevent him from abducting her, her fellow guard and friend Rylan, and Prince Damian, taking them through the treacherous wilds of the jungle and deep into enemy territory.
The longer Alex is held captive with both Rylan and the prince, the more she realizes that she is not the only one who has been keeping dangerous secrets. And suddenly, after her own secret is revealed, Alex finds herself confronted with two men vying for her heart: the safe and steady Rylan, who has always cared for her, and the dark, intriguing Damian. With hidden foes lurking around every corner, is Alex strong enough to save herself and the kingdom she's sworn to protect?
My review: This book was amazing! I thought that Alexa was amazing. She had tons of hard things happen from her parents and brother being killed right in front of her, to having to pretend to be a boy to keep herself from going to the breeding house. She is a loyal and true person who tries her hardest to defend Prince Damian and do what she believes is right. She really is such a strong character, it was a joy to see the world through her eyes.
There is tons of stuff going on in the plot in this one. We have Alex and her amazingness at keeping Prince Damian safe. The kingdom, holy cow! Would not want to live there. The kind is pretty much a jerk and that's before you find out all of his secrets! He keeps taking people, especially children hostage, and they either go to the breeding house to make new soldiers, or they are made into soldiers on the spot. Prince Damian, seems to be a jerk at the beginning as well, but he also has secrets.
This book is full of action and adventure, there's a touch of romance. And it's written for teens, so it's clean. It's a book that you don't want to put down!
I was able to borrow this from my local library.
