Cokeville Miracle - DVD review and Giveaway

About the movie: On May 16, 1986, in the small, ranching community of Cokeville, Wyoming, David and Doris Young took an elementary school hostage for several hours before detonating a bomb inside a classroom that held every teacher and student in the school. In the wake of the madness, Ron Hartley, whose children were inside the classroom, must fight his skepticism and unbelief as he hears eyewitness accounts from the students about miraculous, heavenly intervention during the crisis. When tragedy strikes ... what do you see?

My review: This movie made such an impact on me when I was able to see it in the theater that I went and bought my own DVD. I'm so excited that Deseret Book has generously donated a movie for one of my lucky readers to win.

Here's what I said about the movie after I watched it:

I was invited to attend a free screening of this movie a couple of weeks ago. I was way excited to go, because this movie is made by TC Christensen and his movies are always AMAZING! I have to say that I LOVED this one as well. I loved the way that the movie was done, the bad thing happened, but to me that didn't seem as though it was really the focus of the movie, unlike the made for TV special I remember watching about this bombing when I was a kid. The focus of the movie was really the miracles that occurred for those in the room, the community, and for the main character Ron Hartley. There is a scene in the movie very near the end where Ron Hartley's family is in Church and some children are singing A Child's Prayer by Janice Kapp Perry, and the whole thing brought me to tears. It was so beautiful! I loved the way that this movie showed that sometimes bad things happen, but there are always miracles and good things that come out of the bad.

One thing you might want to be careful of is that this movie is rated PG-13 and the reason is for the violence both during the actual event and at the beginning. For me, I felt that the beginning was very dark and while it was beautifully done, I am going to be mindful of the reasons for the rating and not let our impressionable 9 year-old see this one just yet.

I love that the hashtag for this movie is #seemiracles, reminding all of us that there are miracles that occur every day in our normal lives. They may not be miracles as big as the characters received in this movie, but they are there. I love that message and I will be looking to see the miracles in my own life more closely than I ever have. Make sure you go see this amazing new movie! And make sure that you take a supply of tissues, because you're going to need them!
