My Own Mr. Darcy

After being dragged to the 2005 movie Pride and Prejudice by her mother, sixteen-year-old Elizabeth’s life changes when Matthew Macfadyen’s Mr. Darcy appears on the screen. Lizzie falls hard and makes a promise to herself that she will settle for nothing less than her own Mr. Darcy. This ill-advised pledge threatens to ruin any chance of finding true love. During the six intervening years, she has refused to give any interested suitors a chance. They weren’t Mr. Darcy enough.

Coerced by her roommate, Elizabeth agrees to give the next interested guy ten dates before she dumps him. That guy is Chad, a kind and thoughtful science teacher and swim coach. While she’s dating Chad, her dream comes true in the form of a wealthy bookstore owner named Matt Dawson, who looks and acts like her Mr. Darcy. Of course she has to follow her dream. But as Elizabeth simultaneously dates a regular guy and the dazzling Mr. Dawson, she’s forced to re-evaluate what it was she loved about Mr. Darcy in the first place.

My Review: When Elizabeth Barrett was 16, her mom dragged her and her best friend, Janessa, to see the movie Pride and Prejudice. Elizabeth just knew she was going to hate the movie, but was pleasantly surprised when she fell in love not only with the movie, but also with Mr. Darcy. From that moment, she's known just what she wanted to look for in the man she would marry. He would look and act just like Mr. Darcy does in the movie. Fast forward 6 years, Lizzie and Janessa are roommates and Lizzie has only ever given any man that took her on a date one or maybe two dates. She's still looking for the elusive Mr. Darcy. She has always wanted to be an interior decorator, but when she graduated from school no one was hiring in that field, so she is working as a bank teller waiting for her big break. She meets a very nice man, his name is Chad, and he asks her out, but she's unwilling to give him more than a date or two. That is until Janessa challenges her to give him 10 dates, and she has to really try. She's dating Chad and really starting to like him, when one day the perfect Mr. Darcy walks into her bank. His name is Matt Dawson and Lizzie just knows that he's her Mr. Darcy, but she really likes Chad too. She decides that it's okay to date both until one or the other wants more from her. But will she decide to follow her dream or her heart?

Oh my heck! I LOVED this book! I love the way that Karey White writes. Her stories are romantic, but they seem as though you are actually there and in the same situation with the heroine. I love her characters, they seem as though they could actually walk off the pages of the book to become your best friend. Lizzie is a really amazing character, I really enjoyed watching her grow and learning just what she really did want out of life. I really liked Chad too, talk about perfect boyfriend, even when he finds out about Matt. I didn't really like Matt at all, even though I like Mr. Darcy for the most part in Pride and Prejudice. I love the feeling of Portland, and the bookstore...I want to go into a bookstore just like the Pink Salamander in the book, it kind of reminds me of The King's English here in Salt Lake. I really loved the ending of this book and enjoyed watching Lizzie grow to where she was ready to make the choice that would be best for her. I'm definitely going to be re-watching the version of Pride and Prejudice that Lizzie loves in this book next week! Can't wait for more of Karey White's books!

I was sent an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
