Winona's Pony Cart

Winona of Deep Valley is just about to have her eighth birthday and she knows just what she wants, a little printing press, no, a doll as big as a baby, no, a PONY (yes)! But her mother thinks that Winona is already in need of behaving in a more dignified manner and a pony will definitely not help with that. Maybe if she's really good and does the things she's supposed to, she can still get a pony. Winona's mother is getting everything ready for her birthday party, invitations sent to children of her parents and others her mother decides on, a cake and ice cream of course. Winona has certain ideas on which children she wants invited to her party and issues invitations to them without ever informing her family. She's not sure if she ought to have said something or not. But what will happen when all of the guests she has invited come to the party along with the ones her mother has invited?

This was a really cute book. I love that it talks about Winona as a young girl. You don't see her as a young girl really in the Betsy-Tacy series. The plot was cute and fun. Winona really is a character, especially with such a dignified mother. Did she get a pony? I'm not going to tell you that, you'll have to find out for yourself!

I was able to borrow this book from my local library.
