Baked Alaska by Josi S. Kilpack
An Alaskan cruise is the setting for amateur detective Sadie Hoffmillers latest adventure. Sadie plans to spend time relaxing with her two grown children, Breanna and Shawn, and her boyfriend, Pete, while enjoying the luxury and cuisine of an elegant cruise ship and helping to plan her daughters upcoming wedding. But even as the crew prepares to leave port, Sadie has suspicions about the voyage ahead and the relationship between her normally easygoing son and a mysterious female passenger he obviously knows but refuses to discuss. When the woman is discovered unconscious during the second night at sea, Sadies apprehension escalates. Over the last few years, Sadie has developed an extreme dislike for secrets and it would seem her son is keeping one from her. *Includes eight new mouthwatering recipes, tested and approved by the official bakers of Sadies Virtual Test Kitchen.
Praise for Baked Alaska
Josi Kilpack has done it again. You would think that all these events that occur in Sadie's life wouldn't be natural, but Josi Kilpack has a way of making you believe that it just "happens" and it is normal. I have grown to love Sadie's character, even if she is a busybody, you can't help but cheer for her as she attempts to solve a mystery or crime. One of my favorite series. :)

My Review
Sadie's life has been curiously free of dead bodies lately, so she decides that it's safe to embark on an Alaskan cruise with her children Shawn and Breanna and her boyfriend Pete. Things are looking pretty good as the cruise starts out, all except for the bread pudding! But, things with Shawn have been weird lately, he's been very secretive and Sadie finds him with a woman she's never seen before as the cruise starts out. She chooses to give him space and things move along. But before she knows it, Sadie is right in the middle of yet another mystery. She and Pete discover the woman that Shawn was talking to unconscious and nearly dead on the deck of the ship late at night. Things get really strange when it appears that she is very drunk, but the bottle of wine next to her has hardly any wine missing from it. Things go from bad to worse as Shawn is removed from the ship by police from a small town in Alaska, suspected of poisoning the woman. Sadie is extremely confused, how does Shawn even know this woman? How could her sweet son be accused of hurting anyone? Sadie must find the answers to these questions, and she must find them before yet another murder happens.
I loved Sadie in this book! I love her personality, I love how she gets herself into sticky and awkward situations, and she always thinks quickly enough to get herself back out of those situations before they blow up in her face. She's also so loving of those around her and is able to make new friends in the blink of an eye. I love the way these books have recipes included of the foods that Sadie is eating, the cruise theme of this one was particularly fun! I also loved the way it seemed as though you are on the cruise with Sadie, the sights of Alaska, the sounds, the animals, the ship, it all feels as though you are really there. I can't wait to read Sadie's next adventure and see what she's cooking too!
I was sent an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
