The Beginning of Better Days: Divine Instruction to Women from the Prophet Joseph Smith

From the back of the book: How important are women in the restored Church of Jesus Christ? We learn something about the answer to that question from a simple historical fact: In 1842, the Prophet Joseph Smith took time to attend several meetings of the Female Relief Society of Nauvoo and give personal instruction to the women there. He did this at a time of great personal turmoil, when persecutions were raging and his responsibilities were heavy. He did it at a time when society barely acknowledged women as having any kind of status at all. On six separate occasions, he taught the women personally about their privileges, their opportunities, their obligations, and the blessings the Lord had in store for them in His kingdom.
The Beginning of Better Days includes Joseph Smith's six timeless sermons to the women of Nauvoo, along with personal essays from Sheri Dew and Virginia H Pearce that help us better understand the sermons and their relevance for Latter-day Saint women today &qu…

Huber Hill and the Dead Man's Treasure

Huber Hill is really hating his life in junior high. Each day he goes to school and is mocked, beaten, made fun of, and embarrassed by Scott McCormick, and Scott never gets in trouble for the things he does to Huber. But that all changes one day when Scott goes too far. He starts out just making fun of Huber, calling him the nickname that Scott made up for him Puber, and just plain being mean, but when Huber's twin sister Hannah tries to get Scott to stop and gets hurt, Huber knows that Scott has pushed things too far and Huber decides to fight back instead of just taking the constant bullying any more. When a scary man comes to the Hill's home looking for the treasure map that Huber's Grandpa Nick left to him when he died, Huber knows he has to go after the treasure - before the scary man goes and finds it, so he sneaks away bringing Hannah and Scott and the three have the most dangerous adventure of their young lives!

This was such a great book! I loved the adventure, ac…

Line of Fire

Autumn Rain is off to find her father, Cody Beckett, a man neither she nor her twin sister Tawnia have ever met. Unfortunately, Autumn is not out for a nice family reunion, in fact, she's disguised her unusual eyes with a colored contact so that Cody would have no chance of guessing who she is. Autumn has been charged with the difficult task of figuring out if Cody has kidnapped a young girl whose boot just happened to be found on his property. Almost as soon as Autumn meets Cody, she can tell just where she got her ability to read imprints. It's obvious to her that he can read them too, which makes it doubly important to hide her own reading of imprints. Autumn and her boyfriend Detective Shannon Martin quickly discover that this case is a case of far more than one missing little girl, it involves drugs, human trafficking and who knows what else. Can Autumn and Shannon get out of the line of fire before one or both of them ends up hurt or worse?

I really enjoy this series. I l…

Desi has made level 3 in the Facade Agency, she's preparing to be Matched to a princess and never sub for another princess again. She's thrilled to be the youngest sub to ever reach level 3, but she knows something that's really bothering her. After her last adventure she learned something dark and sinister about Facade and she's not quite sure what to do about it. She's hoping that her handsome friend Reed (of course she doesn't have a crush on him, her best friend Kylee does, so Desi certainly doesn't!), who she found out works for the male version of Facade will be able to help her figure out what to do about her secret. But will Desi be able to fix it before Facade realizes what she's doing and has her sub-sanitized?

I really have enjoyed this series. I love Desi, I love all of her faults and her cari…

Savoring the Season with Our Best Bites

I have a bit of an obsession with the Our Best Bites blog. Their recipes are always really yummy and usually not that difficult to put together. I like that they show you how to do things in ways that are easy to understand, and the photography on their site is amazing! I have their original cookbook (click here to see the review of that one) and I love it! I use it a lot, so I was super excited to get the new cookbook! I was even able to go to the launch party that they had at a local kitchen store, Orson Gygy, if you love everything kitchen like me, you want want to check out their site! I love that place, it took all my will power not to buy everything that I saw in there! The launch party was great! There were tons of samples of many different recipes and then I got to meet the authors Sara Wells and Kate Jones. They were super nice and we talked about our mutual love of Tillamook Cheese! But I didn't buy the book there, they wanted full price for it $27.99 and that's not …

They just know that they will feel so grown up and have such exciting and amazing things happen to them when they are 10. They do have great things happen to them, they all fall in love with the King of Spain and they even write him a letter. They are able to perform in their school entertainment and that's an adventure. And they make a new friend from Little Syria, and learn that the people that live there are great, kind people. They also learn how to be more kind themselves.

This is such a fun book! I have been reading this series to our daughters, and even though the series was written in the 1940's, I love how the stories still apply today! The stories don't really seem old fashioned, even though the characters travel by horse power. I think that it's amazing to have them written so long ago, about the author's youth and still have them…

One day a really strange case comes to the medical examiner's office. A centenarian is brought into the office, she had been in excellent health, lived on her own. Rebekah knows that it's not just a coincidence, and that she and her boyfriend Josh can solve the cases and figure out just who is stalking centenarians and why. This book was really creepy, just in the way the bodies were. I was creeped out from the beginning, not in a bad way, just in a mystery book type way. I enjoyed the story lin…

Let It Go

On the night of February 9, 2007 Chris Williams was driving home with his wife, Michelle, his sons Sam and Ben and daughter Anna, when he was hit by a drunk driver. The accident killed Michelle, Ben and Anna instantly along with their unborn baby. As he was looking at the three members of his family that he instinctively knew were dead, Chris heard a voice "that was clearly not my own in my mind as clearly as if it had come from someone seated next to me. It was straightforward and filled with power, and the voice said, "Let it go!" Thus begins his journey through the grief and pain of this tragedy. Thus also begins his forgiveness of the young man who caused this tragedy for his family.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It's well-written. I enjoyed reading about how Chris was able to forgive the young man and move on with his life with only half of his family remaining. I loved how he talked about how he felt the Savior's love for himself, his family and also …
