Girls Don't Fly

Myra's a girl living in a little town called Landon, Utah. She's never really felt as though she belonged there, because there's basically one religion and everyone belongs to it, it seems, except for her. Her older sister Melissa is going to her first year of college and pregnant, which is causing some major strain in her family. And her boyfriend, Erik, breaks up with her, pretty unexpectedly. So Myra's kind of left on her own, she had a few friends before Erik, but kind of spent all of her time with him, so they moved on without her. School after he breaks up with her is so awkward, especially AP Biology. Things look up for Myra when a college student comes into their biology class to talk to them about a scholarship for an internship on Galapagos Island to study the animals that are there and nowhere else. This kind of becomes a competition between her and Erik, because they're the only two kids from their school trying to win the scholarship. The problem with …

Miles from Ordinary

Lacey is a 13 year old girl. She's excited to start her new job volunteering at the public library, but more than a little scared to have Momma start her new job at the grocery store. They really need any money that her mom can bring in, but her mom's not really normal. She sees and talks to her dad, who died the same day that Lacey was born, this had not always been such a problem, especially when Lacey's Aunt Linda had lived with them. She seemed to have a calming effect on Momma and kind of acted as a surrogate mother to Lacey. Not that Momma didn't love her, just that she spent a lot of time in her own world with grandfather. But Lacey can't even imagine the danger that this wonderful spring day will bring for her. I read this book because it's a Whitney nominee, but I'm not really sure why. I didn't love this one, the whole book seemed just a little strange and off to me, and I found the end really creepy and annoying.

Sean Griswold's Head

Payton Gritas is a bit of an organizational genius and she's always gotten great grades in school, but when she finds out that her dad has MS and has been hiding it from her for 6 months she goes a bit off the deep end. Her room is a huge mess, she doesn't care what she wears, or about being organized and don't even get started on her grades. She also won't talk to either one of her parents, she feels as though they've lied to her for 6 months and doesn't feel as though she can trust them anymore. Her parents don't know what else to do, so they have the school counselor talk to Payton, and her first assignment of her therapy sessions is to find a focus object. Something that Payton can focus on to get her mind off her dad's MS and help her to figure out her feelings toward her parents. She tries to think about things to focus on, but has a really hard time finding anything at all, until she looks at the desk directly in front of her and finds the one pe…

Twitterpated

Jessie's a normal young single adult living in Seattle. She's had a bad relationship and a bunch of really bad blind dates, so she's sick of that scene and pretty much has become a work-aholic to compensate. So she's pretty mad when her roommate Sandy signs her up for one of those LDS dating services. Sandy convinces her to at least look at the profiles of the three men who were matched to her by the sight and there's one who looks pretty promising. She sends him a "wave" and soon they're sending e-mail messages back and forth. All too soon they decide that maybe since their messages seem to work for them, they should meet. Enter Ben Bratton, an amazing very attractive person and completely perfect for Jessie. But Jessie is having a contest at work with a man named Craig and she just doesn't feel as though she has a lot of time for a relationship right now. And Ben's been burned before by a previous girlfriend who thought work was far more imp…

Final Call

Autumn Rain can read "imprints", strong emotions basically, off of objects owned by people. This talent comes in handy in her consulting job for the police. She's tending her antique shop in Portland one morning when one of her former employees comes to her with a mystery. His sister has disappeared when she was so excited about her role in a new play she was going to be doing. He knew that there was no way she would have just left on her own and comes to Autumn to see if there's any way she can help him. She promises to try, but is uncertain if there's any way she can really help. She also sends him to Detective Shannon Martin, her contact with the Portland police department, hoping that the police department will be able to help with his missing sister. Autumn however heads to the theater that the sister was working at, and discovers that it's very hard to tell the difference between the make-believe world of play acting out murder and the real world of mur…

Double Deceit

Elaina Bryant is a young widow. She ran off and eloped with her abusive husband as a teenager. Now he's died in a car accident and their young daughter, Anna, died with him. Elaina's finally decided to come back to her childhood home after 10 years. She hopes that her sister, Natalie, still lives there, but she's unsure because her husband had kept any mail that had come for her from her family. She found it in his things after he had died, including the notice that her mom had died. She thought that the letters that she had written home and mailed would have gotten to them, but they hadn't. She can only assume that he had gotten rid of the mail that she had tried to send to her family after they had gotten married. Natalie is thrilled to see Elaina and know that she's okay. Elaina tries to move on with her life by getting a job in a small bookstore in town and starting to fall in love with her boss, Ryan. But as she falls in love with Ryan strange things start hap…

Northanger Alibi

Claire Hart is just a normal 16 year old girl. She has very overprotective parents because of something that happened to her older sister. Her favorite books are the Twilight series, so she's beyond thrilled when Darlene and Roger, some of her parents friends want to take her to Seattle. The only way they will agree is if Claire's older sister, Cassidy goes as well, Clair quickly gets over the fact that her parents have basically invited Cassidy along. It's SEATTLE, after all! The whole reason that Darlene wants Claire to go to Seattle is so that the kids of some of their friends would have someone to hang out with. That is kind of a red flag for Claire about those kids, but she's pleasantly surprised when she meets Tony and his sister Nora. But it seems as though they have a secret and Claire is certain that she knows exactly what it is. They do live in Seattle, and of course, so does Edward and his family. Not to mention Tony is hot enough to be a vampire! Cassidy is…

Banana Split

Sadie's been having a hard time, ever since her last mystery in Boston. She's been anxious and depressed. This book finds her basically hiding out in a condo in Hawaii. She has a few acquaintances, but no real friends there, in fact, she's pretty much hiding from her friends in Colorado too. One of the women she knows in Hawaii, Konnie, talks her into going on a few excursions with a group called the Blue Muumuus, including snorkeling. Sadie didn't really want to go, but was unsure of how to get out of another invitation. She went, but when she got under the water she found herself having a panic attack. Without waiting for the other members of her group, or even letting them know what was happening, she swam for the beach. But what she found there was just another in a long series of dead bodies, unluckily for Sadie it's long hair tangled her up in it. After giving her statement to the police, Sadie is done, she doesn't want to know anything about the body she…

Unfortunately, neither her husband or his family is at all supportive, they feel that she should stay in Utah and take care of her husband and 3 young children. The feeling won't go away, and she's prayed about it countless times. One day she feels that she should go to her own parents and tell them about her feelings. Her parents are very supportive, they offer to pay for her to go and also take care of her young children so that her husband won't have to worry about them for the 6 months she will be gone. Scary School

Scary School is just a normal school for kids. Some of those kids are normal and some of them are well....scary. Scary School is a place for kids to learn important life lessons, like never reading rule number 5 in Dr. Dragonbreath's class and to always make sure to wear the school uniform which is definitely not grey shorts, white dress shirt and polka dot tie, as Charles Nukid learned the very first day that he attended school at Scary School. One of the scariest things about the school is that kids don't always survive their time their, sometimes they have to die in order to learn an important life lesson. Derek the Ghost was just one of many kids killed in Scary School. He decided to write down some of the crazy and scary things that happen there, as well as telling the whole world about the crazy characters that go to school and teach there. This book reminded me of Sideways Stories from Wayside School, just in the way that it is written. It's kind of a collection of …
