The Secret Sisters Club

12 year old Ginnie lives on her family's farm with her dad and twin brother Toran. Life is about perfect for Ginnie, except she's missing her mom who died when she and Toran were 3. She doesn't remember much about her mom, but she does know that she was a beauty queen and loved to ride her horse, something Ginnie shares with her. Ginnie's best friend, Tillie, spends a lot of time with Ginnie's family while her mom is working. Tillie's Dad left Tillie and her mom, and Tillie knows that she needs a father in her life. She starts thinking that maybe Ginnie's dad would be the perfect father and that's how the Secret Sisters Club is born. Tillie and Ginnie are going to try to get Miss Amanda (Tillie's mom) and Ginnie's dad together. Unfortunately, their plan starts to work a bit too well and Ginnie is not certain that she wants a new mom after all. She realizes that she doesn't want to lose the few memories she has of her own mother. She's al…

Betsy and Tacy Go Downtown

Betsy, Tacy and Tib are 12 years old now and quite grown-up. They are even allowed to go downtown...all by themselves. They are way excited, they know that when they go downtown they will get to see and do all kinds of things, things like seeing their very first horseless carriage, the public library and even a play at the opera house. They even are able to make a new friend, Winona Root. And along the way, they learn a few important life lessons too. Things like what books are appropriate for a twelve year old girl to read, how to help a lonely person, and how to make a new friend.

I really enjoy this series. I love how these books were written a long time ago, but they still can have application in the lives of our children now. I love Betsy, Tacy and Tib, their characters are one of a kind, and I love how you can feel as though you really know them.

I borrowed this book from my local library.

The Demigod Diaries (Heroes of Olympus)

Book Summary from Goodreads:What dangers do runaway demigods Luke and Thalia face on their way to Camp Half-Blood? Are Percy and Annabeth up to the task of rescuing stolen goods from a fire-breathing giant who doesn't take kindly to intruders? How exactly are Leo, Piper, and Jason supposed to find a runaway table, dodge a band of party-loving Maenads" ("who just might be a little psychotic), and stave off a massive explosion...all in one hour or less?
With his trademark wit and creativity, Rick Riordan answers these questions and more in three never-before-seen short stories that provide vital back-story to the Heroes of Olympus and Percy Jackson books. Original art, enlightening character interviews and profiles, puzzles, and a quiz add to the fun in this action-packed collection.

*A story from Luke Castellan's point of view, from the days when he adventured with Thalia and Annabeth. Many people have asked me to write an adventure prequel to The Lightning Thief. Here…

Third Time's the Charm

Liz is a single mom to her six-year-old daughter, Paisley. She's been married twice, but neither of them worked out, so she and Paisley live in a small apartment. It seems like nothing in their small apartment works very well, including the kitchen faucet that she's already had fixed twice. She's at the end of her rope when she calls the apartment maintenance people, hoping against hope that they can fix the leak. What she gets is Sloane Branden, the attractive owner of her apartment complex. He happily fixes the leak for her, and tells her to call him if she ever needs anything else. Liz isn't quite sure why she can't stop thinking about him, she's sworn off men forever, and she knows that he too had a bad marriage experience. But sometimes you can't stop your heart from falling in love with someone. Will Liz give into her heart, or will she make the biggest mistake of her life?

This is a novella, so it's really short. I like how even though it's sh…

Blog Tour - An Unexpected Angel

An Unexpected Angel – Plot Summary
Ella Davies, is focused, independent, and driven. Her hard work is finally paying off and she is on the brink of great success. But what no one knows is that her frantic drive is born not from a desire to succeed, but from a need to forget – forget her past, forget her guilt, and mostly, forget the tragedy that changed her life forever.  Ella’s strategy seems to be working but on Christmas Eve she meets Cohen, a strange man with an even stranger purpose. Cohen catapults Ella back through time and forces her to confront not only her own pain, but the pain of those long since passed. In the process, Ella learns about courage and compassion and that in the darkest hour, no one is ever  alone.
My Review
Ella is a work-a-holic lawyer. It's Christmas Eve and all the people she works with are heading home to be with their families for Christmas. But not Ella, Ella's planning on working as late as she ever does and she'll go home and do more work ther…

In the Dark Streets Shineth

Summary from Goodreads: Days after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt met at the White House. It was Christmas Eve, 1941. As war raged throughout the world, the two leaders delivered a powerful message that still resonates today. This picture-filled book also includes a DVD of McCullough's presentation of this story with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

My Review: I picked this book up from Deseret Book for $1.99, it comes with a DVD, I figured that was an amazing deal. This book doesn't take very long to read, there are a lot of pictures in it and not very many words per page. The words that are there are very inspirational. I love reading the words of Winston Churchill, he was an amazing man. I also loved reading David McCullough's words as he's talking about the visit that the two men (Churchill and Roosevelt) shared that Christmas Eve. I could just picture the situation, in the middle of…

Good King Wenceslas

Here's a beautiful Christmas book for you to read to your family year after year at Christmas time. This book follows and also explains the Christmas carol of Good King Wenceslas, which to me has always been one of the most confusing ones. I also had no idea that this carol had more than one verse, the other verses kind of clarify and explain the song more as well. I loved this book, the story was cute, the pictures are beautiful and I loved the explanations of lesser known things like St Stevens Day and descriptions of what a page is.

I was able to get the e-version of this book from Netgalley, I've also seen it for sale at Deseret Book and I'm sure you could find it online.

Blog Tour - The Dark Eagles: First Flight

My Review Kief is a young man, whose whole life is ahead of him. He's about ready to head off to the merchant academy to follow his dream of becoming a captain of his own ship. First he has one last adventure at home, you see, his grandfather left him a treasure map. It's not just any old treasure map, it's written in a language that Kief can't even read, that must make it very important. Kief and his best friend Tarc, are able to find where the map leads, with the help of a very rare dark eagle. It leads to an awesome cave in the mountains that would be the perfect place to hide out for a day or two. Then Kief is off an his newest adventure, merchant academy. But he's no sooner settled in his room, than the city is attacked by the Country of Gar. The whole city is blown apart and Kief is able to escape with is friends, Luften, Clarin and Patin. But the friends are mistaken in thinking there is anywhere safe. Even Patin and Kief's home in the mountains are givin…
