Slathbog's Gold

Alex is having just a normal day. He's taken some time to think about his day as he's walking through town. He comes to a familiar bookshop on a familiar street, but suddenly everything is different. He notices in this familiar shop a sign that he's never seen there before. The sign says "Adventurers Wanted: Apply Within." Alex is musing on the strangeness of the message of the sign and happens to glance around at the empty street around him, when he looks back at the sign, it's changed color. He wonders if it's a special sign made to change color and enters the bookstore to either look at the sign or inquire of the clerk. What he finds is something surprising. The store inside is not the familiar bookstore that he was expecting, it's something far different. Through a funny misunderstanding, the man in the store, Mr. Clutter, takes an application from Alex to be an Adventurer and sets him up with an interview immediately for his first adventure. Alex meets the people doing the interviewing, and decides that it would be fun to go on an adventure, especially since he's assured that little time will pass in his everyday life before he returns from his-adventure,no matter how long that adventure is. But is Alex truly ready for the world of Adventurers?

I am very embarrassed to admit that I've had this book sitting on my bookshelf for more than a year without ever even opening it. I could make excuses about having a lot of other books to read, but after having read it, I know that I should have read it right after I got it. This story is AMAZING! Alex is a great character to see the adventures through, I love how he works through things to figure them out. I love that he is a strong male character for boys to look up to, it seems as though there aren't many of those right now. I love the adventurers, how brave, and honorable they all are. I loved the adventure in this book, it seems as though the trolls and dragons jump right off the pages of the book into your mind. Thanks to M L Forman for such a great book and series, can't wait for more adventures!
