To Have and To Kill

When I saw this author's last name I had great hopes of a suspense story in the likeness of Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark, and my expectations were met in every way. Piper is the main character in this book, she is an actress who has lived in New York, but she hasn't been able to keep steady acting jobs, so she decides to move home to live with her parents and help out in her Mother's cake shop, The Icing on the Cupcake, but something seems kind of off with her mom, and she can't quite put her finger on it. Her good friend, Glenna Brooks, who works on the same soap opera that Piper used to work on is getting married and asks Piper if her mom can make the cake. Piper's mom says that there's no way she would be able to do a wedding cake at that time of year, but that Piper should do it. Pretty soon though, things get crazy with people close to Glenna dying all around her. Piper doesn't think there's any way she would ever be a target for the killer, but tries to be careful anyway. Will she be careful enough??? I really enjoyed this book, for the most part it was clean, it seems like there were a few farmer words and deity references, I enjoyed the suspense and the characters in this mystery!
